Cypress Ridge
Casa Solana

Overview
Casa Solana sits on the last building site before the ridge falls away to the sea. The brief was short and hard to meet: a house that disappears at midday and glows at dusk. The answer is a deep cantilevered roof in oiled cedar, carried on a spine of local limestone.
The plan is one long bar, a single room deep, so light crosses the whole house twice a day. Living, dining and kitchen run without a break along the west face behind a glass wall that slides fully into the stone. Bedrooms are on the upper floor, each with its own loggia.
The garden went in eighteen months before the house was finished, so the olives already read as though they were always there. Lavender, rosemary and cistus hold the lower terraces. The pool is set slightly off the center line, which sounds like a mistake until you stand in the living room and watch the water meet the horizon in a single line.
Inside the house
- The west range
- Living, dining and kitchen run as one room along the glass wall, sixty feet end to end. The wall slides fully into the stone, so in summer the range becomes a covered terrace.
- The bedroom floor
- Six bedrooms upstairs, each with its own loggia and its own outlook. The main suite takes the south corner, with a dressing room and a bath that looks straight down the coast.
- Below ground
- The wine room holds 1,400 bottles at a constant cellar temperature. Plant, laundry and staff quarters share the level, reached by a separate stair.
